Consulting

Consulting services support residential projects that require focused expertise in building performance, enclosure strategy, and energy modeling. This work often runs alongside architectural design and construction, providing targeted analysis and documentation to support informed decisions and high-performance outcomes.

Consulting roles range from discrete energy modeling scopes to broader performance and enclosure support, depending on the needs of the project and team.

  • Consulting services include energy modeling and performance analysis for high-performance residential projects, including those pursuing passive house certification. Modeling is used as an active design tool, informing decisions around massing, glazing ratios, enclosure assemblies, and mechanical strategy as the design develops.

Support may include development of passive house–compliant energy models, design-phase iteration, and coordination with architects and mechanical consultants to align design intent with certification requirements. Where applicable, consulting also includes preparation and coordination of certification-related documentation.

This work is well suited to projects where performance goals are central to the design, and where technical clarity meaningfully informs architectural and construction decisions.

  • Consulting support often focuses on the building enclosure, where decisions around assemblies, detailing, and sequencing have an outsized impact on comfort, durability, and energy performance.

This may include review and development of wall, roof, and foundation assemblies; strategies for airtightness and moisture control; thermal bridge identification and mitigation; and integration of windows and doors within the enclosure system. For retrofit and renovation projects, consulting also addresses the challenges of working within existing conditions while improving overall performance.

The emphasis is on clear, buildable solutions that support both performance goals and architectural intent.

  • Consulting support is tailored to the needs of each project, whether that means focused energy modeling, review of enclosure details, or ongoing performance guidance alongside design and construction. Some projects require answers to a few specific questions; others benefit from continued involvement as decisions are made and work moves forward.

The scope is defined collaboratively with the homeowner, architect, or builder to focus on the areas where consulting input will have the most impact. This allows the work to stay targeted and practical, while still providing clear direction and accountability.

If you’re considering consulting support — whether for energy modeling, enclosure strategy, or performance-related questions — I’m happy to talk things through.
